Allergic Reaction Can Be Avoided: Stay Away from “Compound Henna”

beautiful hair. www.sababotanical.comAllergic Reaction from a "Natural Henna" Product?

"Compound Henna": We’ve seen it online or on the shelves of drug stores, department stores and even at “professional” beauty supply stores. On the 'natural' henna box, there is an image of a beautiful woman with long, radiant hair that captivates us. We imagine that we are the beautiful model in the picture with a mass of tresses, cascading down our own shoulders.

At this point, we have a decision to make: grab the box and buy the “image” or, we could choose to look past the image on the box and try and find the ingredient label, of this so-called ‘natural’ henna hair dye. What we find (or don’t find) may be surprising.

We normally don't think of the possibility of severe allergic reaction, when we think of 'natural' henna dye, but now is the time to change our thinking.

beautiful hair 2. www.sababotanical.comWhat is “Compound Henna” Hair Dye?

It may surprise you to know that not all henna dye mixes are completely herbal or all-natural. “Compound henna” generally is composed of lower quality henna that contains lower dye content and is mixed with harmful additives and synthetic dyes that can cause severe allergic reaction. Even if they don’t contain PPD (para-phenylenediamine), ammonia or peroxide, they may contain harsh metallic salts, alcohol and synthetic dyes. Since the henna is mixed with synthetic dyes and ‘who knows what else’, the mixture is referred to as: “Compound Henna” hair dye.

Perhaps, you’re wondering, “How can such products be sold without an ingredient label?” It does seem mysterious. However, the answer is that in the countries where the henna is grown, they might not be required to list the ingredients on the label. Once exported, the U.S. importer is not required to re-label the product.

Additionally, the FDA* states, “Because the FPLA does not apply to cosmetic samples and products used exclusively by professionals--for example, for application at a salon, or a booth at a fair or boardwalk--the requirement for an ingredient declaration does not apply to these products.”

That is why purchasing henna mixed with unknown additives and synthetic dyes can be a costly and potentially dangerous experience.**
  • Know What is In Your Henna Hair Dye Package.
  • It is absolutely essential to be very selective when choosing henna hair dye.
  • Avoid Allergic Reaction.
  • Avoid "Compound Henna".
  • Be Wise: Use Lustrous Henna 100% All Natural Hair Dye.
  • Lustrous Henna is NOT “Compound Henna”.

Natural Dyes for Hair- An Option Worth Considering

Radiant Hair reflects a person's state of health, as well as creates that beautiful look that we all want to keep forever!

Radiant Hair. www.sababotanical.com
Have you ever thought about natural dyes as a hair color option?
Did you know that you natural dyes will also bring out highlights, add shading or cover your gray hair?

Natural Dyes for Hair Color -An Option Worth Considering

Using a natural product, such as Lustrous Henna hair dye is very safe and beneficial to your natural hair than a conventional hair dye. Conventional hair dye may completely damage your hair and scalp with prolong use.

Avoid Harmful Conventional Hair Dyes. www.sababotanical.comWhy Avoid Conventional Hair Dyes?

"Conventional dyes contain high level of toxic chemicals that can be absorbed through the scalp, where there is a rich blood supply. Then these chemicals circulate throughout your body, where they can be stored in the tissues and cause adverse health effects," says Marianne Marchese, ND, who practices natural medicine at a Woman's Time Clinic in Portland, Oregon.

A recent hair color study conducted at Yale University found a link between permanent hair dye and Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. One study for example, suggested that woman over the age of 50 who have used permanent hair dyes for ten or more years have an increased risk of breast cancer. Yet another discovered that users of permanent hair dyes are 2:1 times more likely to have bladder cancer. Other studies have linked the use of hair dyes to allergies and skin disorders like eczema and to far more serious diseases like leukemia and ovarian cancer.

Such study results should not be surprising when one considers the number of toxic ingredients used by both salon and consumer hair color formulas. In one analysis of popular brands and formulations, Consumer Reports found nearly 20 different ingredients that were classified as potential human carcinogens. The suspects included such heavy oncological hitters as coal tar derivatives, para-phenylenediamine (PPD), (which can also cause blindness), bezenediamine dihydrochloride, and aminonline dihydrochloride. Other hazardous ingredients include, ammonia, peroxide and lead, a heavy metal commonly found in products that gradually color hair over time with many repeated applications.

Fortunately, a nontoxic alternative to synthetic hair colorants does exist:

Lustrous Henna® 100% natural hair dye is an innovation in hair color treatment.

Natural Hair Highlighted by Chemical Process is Not Safe

Krista LOVES her hair highlighted with Natural Lustrous Henna.Natural Hair -A Better Way to Highlight

Avoid chemical processing altogether and protect your natural hair. There is an alternative, 100% natural and proven hair treatment that will color and highlight your natural hair in beautiful lustrous shades.

Lustrous Henna® has been used happily by many former sufferers of chemical hair dye and PPD allergic reaction. It is a plant-based herbal hair color dye and is completely PPD-free, peroxide-free and ammonia-free.

Avoid skin irritation. Learn about Lustrous Henna® ingredients.

Lustrous Henna ® will help you become an all-natural beauty with radiant highlights!

About Highlighting by Chemical Processing of Natural Hair

“Hair highlighting/lowlighting refers to changing a person's hair color, using lightener or hair color to color strands of natural hair in varying sizes. There are four basic types of highlights: foil highlights, hair painting, frosting, and chunking. Highlights can be done in natural or unnatural hair color. Hair lightened with bleach is considered permanent.”
Using chemical process to achieve this effect is unsafe and dangerous to natural hair color. It can also cause skin irritation and other adverse effects.

Avoid harmful chemical hair dye.Basic foil highlighting

“Foil highlighting is the process of using foil to separate strands of hair which will be lightened from strands of hair which will remain its natural color.[1] The process is done by applying lightener to the hair that has been woven and separated using an applicator brush. The foil is then folded as to protect the hair and surrounding area during the "processing" time. This is the amount of time required to achieve the desired results. In highlighting hair hydrogen peroxide mixed with pigment is used to change the color of the strand.[2] This process is also used in applying "lowlights" to the hair. In this process, hair dyes are used to create strands of hair that are darker than the natural hair color. The foils are often used to separate hair strands for high and low lights during the same process.” (PPD allergy, chemical compounds alert, skin irritation alert**)

Hair painting

“Hair painting is a method of highlighting natural hair color that may be done at home. Hair painting methods are often permanent and employ a simple hair-painting brush. Hair painting is also used with temporary and semi-permanent types of brushes. While brushes are commonly used in hair painting, one may also use combs to paint or highlight thin-sized strands of hair. Balayage is a technique referring to free-form painting on clean, styled hair. The results are subtle and more natural looking than foiling or chunking.” (PPD allergy, chemical compounds alert, skin irritation alert**)

Frosting

“Frosting refers to the process of free-hand lightening the tips of the hair, and is generally performed on men with short hair.” (PPD allergy, chemical compounds alert, skin irritation alert**)

Chunking

“Chunking refers to a style of highlight which is larger and thicker than a traditional highlight, rather than to a method of creating highlights.[3] Chunky highlights are generally offered in a wider variety of bold natural colors, as well as a large number of artificial, or unnatural hair color, used to create more contrast, rather than subtle texture, as in traditional, thinner highlights.” (PPD allergy, chemical compounds alert, skin irritation alert**)

According to leading dermatologists, more variety of colors mean more chemical compounds* that are potentially dangerous to the hair and hair shaft.

*Italics ours. ** Most synthetic and many so-called "natural" hair dyes contain PPD (para-phenylenediamine, a dangerous chemical contained in numerous hair dye products.) It has been banned in Europe.

Dry shampoo has a number of benefits for those who suffer from oily scalp and need to wash their hair more frequently, which isn’t always convenient with today’s hectic schedules. If you really want a dry shampoo that has been used for centuries and is very inexpensive, try  Multani Mitti Clay Powder (Fullers Earth) sold at Saba Botanical of USA. Simply part hair; apply a small amount; brush through hair, then brush out vigorously.
However, dry shampoo is not a substitute for a regular hair washing and conditioning.

True or False -More Hair Stories.

Brush HairTrue or False Hair Care: You should brush your hair 100 strokes every day.
False.  Brush hair lightly, only to style it, because brushing pulls hairs out of their follicles and possibly weakens individual strands.

True or False Hair Care:
Rinsing with ice-cold water after a shampoo will give you shinier hair.

False. It might wake you up, but a dousing of cold water will have no effect on the shininess of your tresses.

True or False Hair Care:
Some hairstyles can cause hair fall.

True. Styles that put too much tension on hair – such as tight plaits, ponytails, cornrows or winding too tightly onto rollers (especially heated rollers) – can cause some hair loss.

True or False Hair Loss Stories

Stress will make your hair fall out.
True. Stress reduces blood circulation at the scalp and a healthy scalp needs blood flow. Garlic-herb-steak

My hair will fall out if I eat too much steak.

False. There is no link with hair loss and consumption of red meats, such as steak. Seriously?! What kind of hair care is this???

A problem with your thyroid cause you to lose handfuls of hair at a time.

True. Either an under-active or over-active thyroid can cause one to lose hair. Check with your internist or endocrinologist to be sure your thyroid levels are where they need to be.

Wigs and toupees can make hair loss worse.

False. Hair doesn’t need to breathe. Only the roots are alive, and they get their oxygen from the blood in the scalp. Wigs and hairpieces only damage hair if they are too tight.

Hair dyes can cause hair loss.

True. Most hair-coloring treatments contain chemicals that, if not properly used, are harmful to hair. Use all natural plant-based hair dye.
Stress can cause hair loss.

True. Stressful episodes, such as an accident or surgery, can cause hair production to shut down temporarily. However, stress does not cause male-pattern baldness.

Hormone problems can cause hair loss.

True. Problems with your thyroid gland can cause hair loss. Women may have short-term hair loss shortly after pregnancy.

Steroids can cause hair loss.

True. Steroid use can cause hair loss. Research has proven that anabolic steroids increase the levels of male hormones that induce baldness.

Blow drying doesn't cause permanent hair loss.

True. Blow drying can damage, burn or dry the hair, which can cause it to fall out, but this hair will grow back immediately. It is not considered to be permanent hair loss.

True or False. Hair Stories, What Do You Think?

full moonTrue or False Hair Care:  Cutting your hair can help prevent hair loss.

False: Hair feels thicker after a haircut because hair is thicker at the base. Cutting your hair will not help to prevent male- or female-pattern baldness.  Shorter hair often looks and feels thicker but cutting your hair won’t alter its normal biologically determined growth rate or overall texture.

True or False Hair Care:  Cutting Hair during a Full Moon Will Speed Up the Growing Process

False: Some astrology followers believe that cutting your hair during the new moon or the first phase of the moon, when the light is increasing, will make hair grow back faster. It won't. This might be psychological.

split ends
True or False Hair Care:  Split Ends Can Be Repaired Without Cutting

Seems true, but in fact the answer is: false. There are products containing silicone that can bind together split ends, however, when the product is washed out of hair, the splits ends “return”. The only real cure for split ends is to cut the hair.

True or False Hair Care:  Shampooing Every Day Keeps Hair Clean and Healthy

False: Only very oily hair needs a daily washing; everyone else should find a way to refresh their style in between shampooing to avoid depriving your ends of vital oils. Try rinsing and conditioning (co-wash) every other day instead of shampooing daily.

head stand
True or False Hair Loss:  Standing on Your Head Makes Your Hair Grow Faster

True: Getting more blood flow to your scalp is always good, but it might be more easily achieved by massaging the scalp. Why risk falling?

True or False Hair Loss:  Men’s’ Hair Grows Faster than Women’s’ Hair

False: There is no evidence to suggest a difference in the rate of hair growth between men and women.

True or False Hair Loss:  If You Leave Your Hair Alone It Will Grow Faster

False. If you don’t do anything at all to your hair it tends to become weak and dry. Hair needs to stay hydrated to be healthy, so this means drinking plenty of water and using a deep conditioner every so often to help lock that moisture in your hair. This will help with frizz, tangles and hair loss as well.

Allergic Reaction to Hair Dye -Risk Increases with Each Use.

Allergic Reaction to Chemical Hair Dye –Heed the Warnings

Tabitha. Chemical Hair Dye Victim.
Tabatha McCourt collapsed 20 minutes after dying her hair and tragically died in hospital.
“Tabatha was rushed to hospital and later died. The exact cause of her death is not known, but medics are investigating whether it might have been due to a severe allergic reaction to a chemical used in 99 per cent of all hair-dyes: PPD or p-Phenylenediamine.

This chemical fixes dye permanently into the hair so it doesn’t wash out — and it is causing increasing concern, with some experts now calling for an outright ban.

In our quest for eternal youth and glamour, hair-dyes have become big business. Every year, we have more than 45 million salon treatments in the UK, while chemists and supermarkets sell at least 50 million boxes of hair colour.

But with this rise in demand comes an increase in the number of people prone to side-effects — some of them deadly. In January, Mariade Kelly, 29, ended up in a hospital high-dependency unit after suffering a severe reaction to PPD. She had decided to dye her hair black.”

*
Next time you pick up a bottle of hair dye, think of the possible allergic reaction you risk with each use of chemical hair dye.
Allergic Reaction to Chemical Hair Dye –On the Increase

"Although full-blown allergies to PPD are rare- affecting around one in 250,000 people- trichologist Iain Sallis says the problems is that you can never tell when you might develop one. 'Even if you have coloured your hair 100 times before, you can become allergic at any time,' he warns.

Hair-dye manufacturers say nobody should use their products without undergoing a patch test first — applying a small amount of dye to a patch of skin for 48 hours. But these tests are not fail-safe.”

*
Hopefully, you will reach for an alternative to chemical hair dye in the form of a natural powder:

Lustrous Henna Dark Brown.  After 5 years of coloring my gray with standard over the counter products that my hair dresser used It developed a severe allergy to them. I was not yet ready to go gray and decided to try your product. I couldn't be happier. The color is very natural; the product is easy for me to apply and best yet there are no allergy related side effects.
